I found the answer by reading Research Roundup vol. 10 published on @Bodybuildingcom. 

In a nutshell, researchers found that significantly fewer athletes in their study became sick when taking probiotics. It’s speculated that probiotics produce beneficial changes in the gut flora that improve immune function.

Since I started intermittent fasting in Aug. 2012, I’ve only had 1 cold. I used to get 3 colds a year. I added probiotics into my regimen in Aug. 2013. I must say, I’m a happy camper. So next time you get a cold, give intermittent fasting and probiotics a thought!
